ARTIST BIO

Shaun Berry Oakley is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and recording artist rooted in the traditions of blues, Southern rock, soul, country, Americana, and improvisational music.

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Sarasota, Florida, Shaun eventually found his way to Macon, Georgia, becoming part of the city’s deeply rooted and continually evolving music community. His career spans live performance, studio recording, original music, session work, and collaborations throughout the Southern roots, blues, and rock scene.

Shaun’s musical foundation is deeply connected to American music history. He is the grandson of Allman Brothers Band founding bassist Berry Oakley and the son of bassist Berry Duane Oakley. Three generations of musicians have carried the Oakley name forward, creating a remarkable musical lineage that continues with Shaun.

That heritage, however, is only the beginning of Shaun’s story.

His career has been built through his own musicianship, songwriting, recording, live performance, and collaborations. Shaun continues to develop an individual sound while honoring the musical traditions that shaped him.

MUSIC

Shaun released his full-length album Wild Man in 2022, featuring 12 original songs, including “Rock and Roll Beauty Queen,” “Rising Sun,” “The Painter,” and “Used to Be a King.”

His most recent release, “Country Song,” arrived in 2025.

Shaun has also performed and collaborated with musicians throughout Macon’s blues, Southern rock, roots, and improvisational music community, continuing to establish himself as a versatile and dependable working musician.

MUSIC MASTERS COLLECTIVE

Shaun has been involved with the Music Masters Collective in Big Indian, New York, a community centered around live music, collaboration, education, mentorship, and the preservation of musical traditions.

The Collective brings musicians together through performances, workshops, master classes, and immersive musical experiences, providing an environment built around collaboration and the exchange of knowledge between generations of artists.

Shaun is also a union member and working professional musician, reflecting his continued commitment to pursuing music as both an art and a profession.

His work encompasses live performance, touring, recording, songwriting, session playing, and collaboration, allowing him to move comfortably between intimate roots-music settings, full-band performances, studio environments, and larger festival stages.

Three generations of bass players connected by a deep Southern musical tradition.

Berry Oakley helped establish the unmistakable bass foundation of the Allman Brothers Band, becoming an integral part of the sound that helped define Southern rock.

Shaun carries that family history forward while creating a musical identity of his own.

Shaun is also connected to another significant chapter of American music history as the grandson, by marriage, of the late Chuck Negron, founding member and lead vocalist of Three Dog Night.

The connection is an important part of Shaun’s family and musical history, but it is not what defines his career. Shaun’s path is being shaped by his own voice as a musician, his original songwriting, his recordings, and the work he continues to do onstage and in the studio.
